Celebrating Earth Day 2021 and Looking Ahead

Following the success of achieving STARS Gold in 2020, the UT Austin President’s Sustainability Steering Committee began its update of the campus 2016 Sustainability Master Plan.  The Committee recently approved draft goals to reflect the growing interest in sustainability across campus, just in time for Earth Day 2021.

In a utilitarian room made of cinderblocks and plywood, designs from past theater productions—a brilliantly colored dragon mask, wire built into the muscles of a velociraptor—peer down onto a dozen students gathered around the scarred worktables. The students, part of the Texas Applied Arts program in Theatre and Dance, are listening to a presentation about how to delineate the level of the 100-year flood plain for their new interactive exhibit.

Dark Tower Symbolizes Energy Efficiency

To highlight the university’s commitment to energy conservation, the UT Tower will be dark the night of Monday, April 22 as the world celebrates Earth Day.

Only the clock faces and aircraft warning lights will be illuminated, and all window shades will be closed.
