In the hustle and bustle of the Forty Acres, you can find hidden gardens, racks of donated professional clothing, hearty food pantries, organized trash cans and energy-saving efforts maintained by staff and faculty members of The University of Texas at Austin — with the help of many volunteers.
The Campus Environmental Center created a new committee to address the intersection of social issues and the environmental protection movement. The committee, called the Environmental Justice Committee, was created this semester and the committee co-chair is Fernando Casal.
Longhorns like Emily Mitchell advocate for bees through Beevo Beekeeping Society: “Pollination is the driving force of so much plant life. Without them, we wouldn’t have the plants we rely on so much.”
UT Farm Stand's Katie Strain was named Student Empolyee of the Year for 2018-19, followed up by Anthony Rivera (director of the Campus Environmental Center) and Khristián Méndez Aguirre (graphic deisgner for Resource Recovery).
Green Fund—and the over 160 projects that have made UT Austin more sustainable since 2011—owes a huge debt of gratitude to Jacob Bintliff, B.A. '10, who spent much of his undergraduate years working to realize his green vision for campus.
