Texas Arbor Day 2018

UT Landscape Services invites the campus community to celebrate the university's observance of Texas Arbor Day on Friday, November 1, 2019 with a planting event in Waller Creek. Event will start at 10am and last until noon.

This event is part of our ongoing efforts to transform stretches of Waller Creek that run through campus, improving the safety, sustainability and health of this riparian ecosystem by removing invasive, overcrowded vegetation and replanting with native plant species. We need volunteers to help plant small containerized grasses, shrubs and trees in marked locations along the creek banks. Meet at staging location on the west side of Waller Creek starting at 9:30AM, event will begin at 10AM with an Arbor Day proclamation, short safety talk and then we'll break out into groups led by Landscape Services staff to go plant. Come and participate for however long you are available!

We will have light refreshments, snacks, FREE TREES & PLANTS for giveaway to good homes, UTea compost tea (for plants), and educational info on trees, natives, and gardening for pollinators & wildlife.

This event is focused on engaging the UT student population to participate in a project related to trees, gathering together to celebrate trees and educating students about the many benefits trees provide to their community. This event supports the standards of the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree Campus USA program, which has designated The University of Texas at Austin a Tree Campus USA for eleven consecutive years.
