5th Annual Symposium: Sustainability at UT Austin
Friday, September 19, 2014

The University of Texas at Austin President’s Sustainability Steering Committee will host a full day symposium dedicated to highlighting the scholarly and practical sustainability efforts of the university community. The symposium itself is an effort to share best practices and academic findings in hopes of discovering new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

Up to four presentations will be selected for each of the following themes:

  • Climate Change, Drought, and the Energy-Water Nexus
  • UT in the City: Waller Creek, the Campus Landscape Plan, and UT Medical School
  • Ecological Economics, Green Infrastructure, and the Value of Sustainability
  • Bridging Academics and Operations: Campus as a Living Laboratory
  • Best of Research and Initiatives

The symposium will feature approximately 20 short presentations from students, faculty, staff and practitioners. Each presentation will be no longer than 7 minutes and will be accompanied by a PowerPoint containing no more than 20 images (no text allowed) detailing how your work (or proposals for future work) are related to concepts of sustainability. Each presenter will be required to submit a brief essay about their work, which will be made available on the university’s Sustainability Portal.  To read the essays or view presentations from the 2013 symposium, visit http://sustainability.utexas.edu/pssc/symposium/.

We encourage collaboration in the submission of abstracts, which will be chosen by a committee based on relevancy to the topic and the unique contribution to the issues addressed. Please send an abstract of no more than one page, indicating your thematic topic, by Wednesday, June 4, 2014 to sustainabilitysymposium@austin.utexas.edu.
