Barney Swan, ClimateForce

How can we work together to save the planet? Learn from renown polar explorer and conservationist Barney Swan, ClimateForce, who is creating a tangible legacy curbing climate change through actions not words. He will deliver the lecture in celebration of the 49th Earth Day in the Texas Union Theater starting at 6pm.

Barney Swan is the International Director of ClimateForce. On January 15, 2018, after skiing 60 days 1000km, Barney Swan along with two other explorers became the first people in history to journey to the South Pole powered by renewable energy. His feat marked the launch of the ClimateForce Challenge, a 7-year mission to reduce 360 million tons of CO2 emissions before 2025. Whether planting a tree, offsetting travel, investing in CSR/ ESG projects, or simply considering your diet, the challenge promotes impact achievable today for both individuals and businesses.

In June, Barney is leading an expedition to the Arctic which trains and inspires global leaders to take guided action towards climate mitigation. ClimateForce: Arctic 2019 is a special expedition to train global leaders to take necessary and guided climate change action. On the expedition in June, there will be over 90 leaders from 25 countries who will participate in workshops and expedition activities that focus on the subjects of leadership, climate change, and sustainability. The mission is for team members to return home to their businesses, governments, and communities as champions for the environment. Joining this group will be several students, post docs and staff from the  University of Texas at Austin.
